Concept
The career portal strengthens igus's digital employer brand and gives the HR team full creative control over content and functionality, built on a modern, independently extensible platform (Next.js + Storyblok).

Anyone looking to have a career portal built that truly fits their own organization will find a hands-on look at the architecture, challenges, and results here.

„With the new career portal, we have full control over our content and its ongoing development. dynabase quickly understood our requirements, thought them through with us, and implemented them cleanly from a technical standpoint. The collaboration was straightforward and on equal footing at all times.

— Michelle Haas, Senior HR Business Partner, igus SE & Co. KG, 2026

CONTEXT & INITIAL SITUATION

With more than 5,000 employees in over 30 countries, a strong digital employer brand is a key competitive factor for igus in recruiting. For this reason, igus wanted to shape its employer brand digitally on its own and be able to quickly adapt the career portal to new requirements.

dynabase developed a tailor-made platform for this purpose, giving igus exactly this creative control. By using established standard software, including Next.js and Storyblok, igus remains independent and avoids vendor lock-in. dynabase and igus share a long-standing partnership: since 2017, we have been jointly developing igus's configurator platform. The career portal is another chapter in this collaboration.

PROBLEM & GOAL

The goal was clearly defined: a modern career portal that the HR team could operate and further develop independently, without relying on developers for every content change. At the same time, the transition had to happen without any interruption for applicants, existing SEO visibility had to be preserved, and the system had to run entirely within igus's own infrastructure.

The challenges were therefore:

Seamless replacement under time pressure:
A functionally equivalent new development with a fixed deadline, since existing contractual commitments were expiring, with no transition gap for applicants.

Automated job listing integration:
Integration with the client's existing applicant management/HR system via a defined interface, so the portal always displays up-to-date job listings without redundant maintenance, including categorization and a clean separation between the "Training & Studies" and "Entry-level and experienced professionals" sections.

SEO during the system migration:
Retaining already-indexed URL structures and setting up targeted 301 redirects so that visibility and rankings are preserved.

Storyblok integration and content migration:
Building a component-based headless integration in which every Storyblok content block maps to its own Next.js component, allowing the HR team to maintain content independently. As part of this, the existing content was transferred 1:1 into the new content model.

GDPR-compliant interaction
An application form with document upload and automated data transfer to the client's HR system, plus a "save this area" feature with double opt-in for legally compliant job notifications.

Operation within the client's infrastructure:
Delivered as a containerized application across several strictly separated environments within igus's own cloud/Kubernetes infrastructure, integrated into igus IT's existing operational and security standards.

Accessibility:
Implementation in line with common standards for accessible web applications.

APPROACH & METHODOLOGY

dynabase implemented the project as a complete rebuild based on proven standard software. Choosing Next.js as the frontend framework and Storyblok as the headless CMS was not an end in itself: both technologies are widely used, well documented, and backed by a large community. This keeps igus independent of any single vendor and allows the system to be developed further with any partner in the long term.

Close coordination with igus's HR team was a central part of the conception phase. Which content needs to be editable, and how? What do the day-to-day editorial processes look like? These questions shaped the component structure within the CMS.

RESULT

The new igus career portal is an independently extensible recruiting platform that combines employer branding requirements with technical independence. The HR team designs and maintains content independently on a component basis, job postings come in automatically, and applications flow directly into the existing HR process.

The career portal runs entirely on igus's own infrastructure, has preserved the SEO visibility of the previous system, and relies on standard software that creates no vendor lock-in. igus can now continue developing its digital employer brand independently.

LEARNINGS

Anyone considering having a career portal built often faces the same fundamental question: buy a SaaS solution or build a custom platform? The answer depends on how much long-term control over content, processes, and infrastructure matters. For igus, independence and creative control were the decisive factors. The combination of Next.js and Storyblok proved to be a future-proof foundation: maintainable, extensible, and not tied to a single vendor.
