# Translating Product Texts with AI: New Markets in Days, Not Months

## The bottleneck in entering a market is the texts

A B2B shop with 3,000 products quickly reaches 25,000 text segments: product names, descriptions, technical data, categories. If you want to enter a new country, you need every single one of them in the new language.

Through an agency, this takes weeks to months per language and costs accordingly. By the time the translation is finished, there are new products and changed texts. The result: many shops are never complete in their second or third language.

For a B2B marketplace, we built an AI translation that translates a complete language in one to two hours. Here is how it works, what it costs and where the pitfalls are.

## What is an AI translation pipeline?

Software that automatically pulls texts from the shop and CMS, translates them with a language model, checks the result and writes it back. A glossary defines how technical terms, brand names and the form of address read in each language.

The difference to copy-pasting into a translation tool: the pipeline only translates what is new or has changed, follows your glossary and reports by itself where it is unsure. It is [custom software](https://www.dynabase.de/en/services/individuelle-softwareentwicklung?hsLang=en), which connects to your existing interfaces. Shop and CMS stay as they are.

An AI translation is worth it if:

- you have more than a few hundred products with their own texts
- several new countries are on the roadmap
- your product range changes constantly
- your texts are full of technical terms that must stay consistent
- your language versions have gaps today because translations are too expensive or too slow.

For a website with twenty pages you don't need this, a translation tool is enough. For a B2B shop with a growing product range, you do.

## How the translation works

In the practical example, the pipeline consists of seven steps:

### Step 1: Pull texts

The pipeline reads product texts from the shop and content from the CMS via the existing interfaces.

### Step 2: Translate only what is needed

Only what is missing in the target language or has changed since the last run gets translated. This makes every further run fast and cheap.

### Step 3: Translate with a glossary

The language model receives the English text as the source, the German text as context and the glossary with fixed terms and rules.

### Step 4: Check automatically

A script checks whether numbers, links, formatting and brand names have been preserved and whether the text really is in the target language.

### Step 5: Flag uncertainties

The model flags passages where it is unsure. In the practical example, this was around 3 percent of the texts. Some of them were errors in the source text that came to light along the way.

### Step 6: Spot checks by native speakers

Colleagues in the respective countries check samples on a comparison page that shows the original and the translation side by side.

### Step 7: Go live

Approved texts go back into the shop and CMS. Every change can be undone.

## Why the glossary makes the difference

A language model translates fluently. But it doesn't know your rules. Without a glossary, exactly the errors occur that customers notice immediately:

**Form of address**

Formal or informal? This must be consistent in every language.

**Fixed technical terms**

In robotics, “payload” stays in English, other terms get translated. The glossary defines which ones.

**Number formats**

Comma or point, units, dimensions: everything according to the rules of the target country.

**Product and brand names**

They stay as they are in every language.

An example: in the first test run in Chinese, product names were translated too because there was no rule for them yet. One line in the glossary fixed this for all following texts. Every new language benefits from the rules of the previous ones.

## Less work for your country teams

AI does not replace the people who maintain your content. It does take a large part of the work off their plate: instead of translating every text from scratch, translators or country teams skim the pre-translated texts and only adjust what does not fit. That is usually much faster.

If they notice errors that keep recurring, the prompt or the glossary gets adjusted. On the next run, the error is fixed in every text, not just in one. Translation quality improves with every run, and the workload in each country goes down.

## Practical example: B2B marketplace for industrial automation

A B2B marketplace for industrial automation wanted to bring its product range to more countries: around 2,800 products and solutions, about 25,000 text segments. A classic translation would have taken weeks to months per language.

2 days

**to the first prototype**

After two days, the first version was running with real product texts.

1–2 hours

**for all texts of one language**

That is how long it takes to translate the entire catalog. With glossary and review, a new language is ready to launch in one day.

\< 5 US dollars

**API costs per language**

For around 25,000 text segments. Four languages are live, four more are in preparation.

More important than speed: new products now appear in all languages at the same time instead of only in German and English for months.

## What does AI translation of product texts cost?

The language model itself costs almost nothing: under 5 US dollars per language for the entire catalog. Provider prices change, but even a multiple of that would not be a relevant cost item.

The actual effort lies elsewhere:

Development: Connecting shop and CMS, automatic checks, comparison page, writing the texts back.

Glossary: Defining terms and rules per language and keeping them up to date.

Review: Spot checks by native speakers, especially for the first languages.

How big this effort is for you depends mainly on your interfaces and the number of languages. This can usually be estimated in a short conversation.

## What to watch out for during implementation

- **Model choice:** Models are not equally good in every language. Test with real product texts before you start, not with sample sentences.
- **Data protection:** Clarify early which data goes to which provider and where it is processed.
- **Quality of the source texts:** Errors in the original end up in every translation. The pipeline makes them visible, but you have to correct them at the source.
- **Approval by people:** The AI translates, your teams in the countries approve. That way, responsibility for the texts stays with you.
- **Plan a way back:** Every change must be reversible. Then even an error in the live system is fixed quickly.

Complete product data in every language is becoming important for a second reason: [AI agents](https://www.dynabase.de/en/services/ki-agenten-entwicklung?hsLang=en), which research and compare products for buyers, only find what is available in the respective language. More on this under [Agentic e-commerce](https://www.dynabase.de/en/services/agentic-e-commerce?hsLang=en).

## Conclusion: New markets in days instead of months

If translations are the reason why a country is not live yet, this can be solved in days today. The language model is the cheapest and simplest part. What makes the difference is the glossary, the automatic checks and a clean connection to your systems.

## FAQs

How good is an AI translation compared to a professional translation?

For product texts with a glossary and automatic checks: good enough for live operation. In the practical example, the model itself flagged around 3 percent of the texts as uncertain. Native speakers check these passages and samples.

How long does it take to add a new language?

Once the pipeline is in place, a new language is ready to launch in about one day, including glossary and spot checks. The translation itself takes one to two hours.

What does AI translation cost per language?

The language model costs under 5 US dollars per language for around 25,000 text segments. The actual effort lies in development, glossary and review.

Does this work with our shop system?

If texts can be read and written via an interface, yes. We check this in the initial call.

What happens with new or changed products?

The pipeline detects new and changed texts and translates only those. All languages stay up to date without the entire catalog being retranslated.
