Project Sunmax
AI optimization of artificial light in greenhouses
⎯
Agricultural technology / greenhouses
Basic idea
In the Sunmax project, the artificial lighting of a greenhouse is optimized using AI. This increases the yield while minimizing energy costs.
What impressed me about working with the dynabase team,
is the speed and precision with which they implemented our complex system.
We particularly appreciated the balance
between sound advice and excellent hands-on implementation.

Hortiya develops in cooperation with dynabase AI-driven greenhouse solutions that give plants exactly what they need — aiming to grow more food with fewer resources.
THE WHOLE STORY
At dynabase, there was an increasing desire to help shape the ecological transformation. Fittingly, there was a request from the start-up Hortiya, which optimizes greenhouses with AI. In order to manage a customer project, the start-up team was looking for reinforcement in the areas of IoT, cloud and web. The entire system had to be made fit for regular operation in a large greenhouse in a short space of time.
Just in time for the start of the lighting season, we jointly developed an IT infrastructure with services in the cloud, on-prem, fleet management, AI plug-in architecture, monitoring and fallback control. The greenhouse could be reliably controlled throughout the entire lighting season. As dynabase, we were able to incorporate our entire breadth of software development: Embedded, Web, APIs, IoT, Cloud, On-Premises, AI.

AI AGENTS
An AI agent processes data and calculates the optimum light distribution during the day. Updates are sent completely autonomously to the local controllers, which in turn switch the lights.
In order to develop and test different AI strategies, a plug-in mechanism has been developed that can be configured remotely.

RESUME
It's impressive what a small team of very strong devs can achieve when the framework is right. Then you pass the balls to each other and get into a flow as a team that is difficult to describe. Then you can also manage complex requirements in high quality.
